James Aylward is the new leader of the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party.
The Stratford-Kinlock MLA won by over 500 votes as he defeated Brad Trivers. Aylward with an announced 1,685 votes at the Brudenell Resort.
He stated the PC party is united and ready to take on the MacLauchlan Liberals.
He did so by showing solidarity from the start. He invited Trivers to the mainstage. They embraced and then held their hands up together.
Aylward says the work begins today as the PC’s annual general meeting is being held in Brudenell.
There was a tribute to outgoing interim leader Jamie Fox who is one of eight PC MLA’s at present.
There is also a by-election looming with resignation of Education Minister Doug Currie this week.
Aylward also ran unsuccessfully in 2015 but achieved his goal Friday night
