The four Atlantic provinces are teaming up to introduce what’s being described as “highly secure” new driver’s licences and photo I-D cards.
Starting in November, these licences and cards will be produced from a centralized system for the region — and they will have some enhanced security features aimed at deterring counterfeits, fraud and identity theft.
Transportation Minister Paula Biggar says the province is committed to providing Islanders with the most secure of driver licence and identification cards.
It’s expected to take some time to transition to the new cards because residents aren’t required to get a new I-D card and will receive the new type of driver’s licence when they apply for a renewal.
