The Humanitarian Award will be presented posthumously to Tom DeBlois of Charlottetown. DeBlois was founding chair of both the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation and Queens Region Health and Community Services Board, and served on the hospital’s board of trustees. He was a board member and chair of Camp Gencheff, and also volunteered with the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, Pat and The Elephant, PEI division of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and many other organizations. Tom passed away in August 2016 at age 69.
The Young Humanitarian Award will go to 18-year-old Lacey Koughan of Charlottetown, who has developed a brand, program and web site called 24STRONG where girls and young women can safely share experiences, discuss life challenges, seek inspiration from female role models, and support each other.
The awards will be presented at the Power of Humanity dinner on November 8th at the PEI Convention Centre.
