Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker is looking for public input on a Private Member’s Bill amending the Employment Standards Act to provide improved whistleblower protections to employees working in the private sector.
Bevan-Baker says government introduced a bill in the spring that offers whistleblower protection to members of the public sector. He says the Office of the Third Party immediately wondered how it could also extend some basic protections to employees in the private sector. The Green Leader adds that there are currently two provinces that have this legislation: Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.
His office has prepared a discussion paper and is seeking public input on the proposed amendments. Comments will be accepted until October 27th.
