Former Chief of the Lennox Island First Nation, Jack Sark, passed away in the Western Hospital in Alberton at the age of 83 on Wednesday.
He served as Chief for 26 years from 1972 to 1998.
He played a key role in the building of housing units for the community over the years and also in improving education.
He also helped develop oyster and blueberry farming plus the establishment of a fire department and a health centre.
Visiting hours will be held at Ferguson’s Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 and Monday until 10.30 in the morning.
Funeral mass to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Lennox Island.
