Measures are being taken at Beach Grove Home to protect residents, staff, and visitors after five residents tested positive for the bacteria MRSA.
The affected residents live in the Sunset Household at the home, and all five have tested positive for either carrying or being infected by the bacteria. Otherwise, they are healthy.
Dr. Greg German, an infectious disease consultant says MRSA is most commonly spread by direct and indirect contact via the hands, so it is extremely important that everyone coming into the home, clean their hands before and after entering the facility and a resident’s room.
Visitation to the Sunset Household only is being limited to two people at a time per resident. Visits should be no more than two hours.
Staff will reassess the situation next Tuesday.
