Some major bridge work and the start of the second phase of the Cornwall bypass project are beginning.
The bridge located in Fortune Bridge along Route 10 near Rollo Bay in Kings County will be closed beginning on Tuesday. It’s being replaced. A detour will be put in place.
That bridge replacement will be completed in December.
The Bideford Bridge near Lennox Island will also be closed starting on Tuesday. It is also being replaced.
A temporary single-lane bypass road will be constructed . Traffic lights will also be put in place.
Work on the new bridge is expected to end in February.
The next phase of work on the Cornwall bypass on the Trans Canada Highway will mean a new 7.5 km stretch of road will be constructed.
The new perimeter highway will go from New Haven to the York Point Road and will decrease traffic in the Cornwall area.
Six overpasses plus bridges will be built along the new route. That will include a new bridge across the Clyde River.
Work should be complete in the fall of 2019.
The province will have to acquire 24 properties in the area. Six properties have been secured so and more to come.
