Bell says accidental damage to its fibre optic grid caused a major service outage in Atlantic Canada Friday, which resulted in flight delays, prevented people from using their debit or credit cards and affected 9-1-1 service. Many went to Facebook and Twitter to say they had no cell phone service which affected thousands.
Bell says the outage began at 10:45 a.m.
Service was restored at 3 in the afternoon.
A company spokesperson says Bell is investigating how the fibre cuts happened.
CTV is reporting third party construction accidents in two separate locations resulted in Bell fibre lines being cut and causing the outage.
