At the Canada games on Thursday, PEI’s women’s basketball team played a placing game and won 80-20 over Yukon
The Baseball team lost in a placing game, 6-5 in 8 innings to Nova Scotia.
The women’s Soccer team lost a heartbreaker, as they were tied with Saskatchewan 1-1 after regulation, but lost 3-1 in penalty kicks
In Beach Volleyball, the men won their placing game over Saskatchewan to finish 9th, and the women lost to Saskatchewan to finish 9th.
The men’s Softball team won 8-3 versus NB, and play Newfoundland Friday.
The men’s basketball team plays Newfoundland on Friday.
There are also events in triathlon, rowing, sailing and track and field.
Marc Campbell was on a roll again Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Campbell scored the fastest win of the 12-dash card with Nikes Cowgirl recording a new lifetime mark of 1:55.3. Campbell trains and drives for owner James Struthers of N.S. Campbell also recorded two other wins and leads all drivers with 68 wins so far this season in Charlottetown.

The Boston Red Sox were able to add a game to their lead in the American League East, thanks to a little help from the A-L Central leaders. Rafael Devers and Mookie Betts belted two-run homers as the Red Sox won their third in a row, 9-5 over the White Sox. Boston now sits two games ahead of the New York Yankees, who were 5-1 losers at Cleveland.
The Calgary Stampeders defeated the Toronto Argonauts 41-24.
The 2017 PEI Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships take place Saturday, August 5, at Credit Union Place in Summerside. The first powerlifting meet on PEI was held 20 years ago and while interest in the sport has had its ups and downs, Saturday’s meet is to be the largest ever on the Island with the exception of when PEI hosted Nationals. Over 60 lifters from across the Maritimes and Ontario will be competing
