Families in the Southern Kings region will benefit from improved cultural and recreational facilities thanks in part to more than $190,000 in support from the Government of Canada.
Cardigan MP and Federal Agriculture Minister made the announcement in Montague.
The infrastructure funding will support six projects, with each community group contributing upwards of 50% of their total project costs.
One of those groups is the Eastern Eagles Soccer Association and its’ complex on Douses Road in Montague.
Association President Gerry Franciosa says the $36,101 dollars in federal infrastructure money was used to make much needed physical enhancements and repairs to the sports complex building and grounds.
Other projects funded are:
$90,825 going to Saint Andrew s Lodge to improve efficiency, accessibility, and functionality of the building;
$22,380 to Northumberland Arena to upgrade the ice surface cooling system;
$20,910 to Pownal Sports Centre to upgrade the refrigeration system in the arena;
$17,467 to Community of Murray River to upgrade the community centre, library and park; and,
$4,598 to Cardigan Area Heritage Association to upgrade the Heritage Centre.
