At the Canada Games, both our basketball teams were in action on Sunday. The Men’s team fell 95-65 to Quebec. The Women’s team had a great third quarter and beat Newfoundland 86-77. The women’s team plays NS Monday at 3:00 our time, and the men play NB at 9:45 our time Monday night.
Men’s Softball abruptly reversed their trend with 2 strong wins Sunday, 4-3 over BC and 6-1 over NB.
The Island crew faces Alberta and Ontario Monday.
The Women’s Soccer team started off their competition schedule versus the NWT and won 5-0. On Monday night they face Ontario.
There’s also action Monday for PEI in volleyball, baseball, rowing, athletics, sailing and triathlon.
It was mega stakes Sunday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and a number of win streaks were reduced to rubble on the afternoon card.
The 15-dash card had a stakes event in every race and the win streaks starting falling in the first event of the day. The Callbeck Memorial Stakes for two-year-old trotters was part of the card and race 1 had Ticked (Myles Heffernan) make a break and miss the winner’s circle for the first time in his young career. That division was captured by Windemeredonyuworry for co-owner, trainer and driver Terry Gallant.

Steve Pearce hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Blue Jays an 11-10 win over the Angels after trailing by six runs entering the ninth inning. It was Pearce’s second walk-off grand slam this week. The Yankees lost 5-3 to Tampa Bay. Kansas City beat Boston 5-3
