Sandbars being created by high winds and shifting sand have become a big problem for fishermen and their boats in Malpeque on the Island’s north shore.
Mussel fishermen say their boats are getting stuck as they try to re-enter the wharf after being out in the water.
Up to 15 boats are heading out at high tide but being stuck when they return at low tide.
Malpeque Harbour did have dredging work done during the spring and the next dredging operation will not be until the fall.
The Department of Oceans and Fisheries is aware of the concerns of the mussel harvesters.
Most important is the safety of the fishermen.
