Logan MacDougall of Summerside will carry the PEI flag at the opening ceremonies of the 2017 Canada Summer Games this Friday in Winnipeg. Logan is an accomplished athlete who will be representing Team PEI in baseball and indoor volleyball. Team PEI’s delegation numbers 316 athletes, coaches, managers, and support and mission staff. The opening ceremonies will be broadcast live on Friday at 9 p.m. on TSN and RDS.
The annual Maritime NHLers For Kids event gets underway Wednesday. First off, there’s a celebrity Meet & Greet autograph session Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 -3:00 at Canadian Tire in Charlottetown. In the evening, the Gala Celebrity Dinner & Auction is at 6.00 at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel. That will include a tribute to Forbie Kennedy.

The event has raised over $45,000 through the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program, which helps kids, whose families couldn’t afford it, get into hockey and play the game.

An upset win at the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes. Luis Contreras guided 14-to-1 longshot Cool Catomine to victory in the second jewel of Canada’s Triple Crown at Fort Erie Racetrack. Contreras kept Cool Catomine behind front-runner State of Honor for most of the race before grabbing the lead in deep stretch.
