An Island man who chased a woman with a vehicle and then assaulted her in a stranger’s house has been given 15 months in provincial jail.
James Calvin McFadden who is 39 had earlier pleaded guilty to charges of assault, dangerous driving, and damage to property.
Chief Provincial Judge Nancy Orr brought down her decision on Wednesday.
The incident happened in March.
He chased the victim’s car, ramming it at one point and when the woman stopped he reached into the vehicle’s window and pushed her head into the steering wheel.
The woman got to a house in Morell where she sought help.
McFadden assaulted her in the home.
On top of jail time, he must pay over $14,000 for damage to the victim’s car and damage to the car he was driving which is owned by his mother.
He must also pay a $500 victim surcharge and write a letter of a apology to the victim.
McFadden will also provide a DNA sample to the national databank. He’s also prohibited from possessing weapons.
