A former RCMP officer found guilty on weapons related charges in March is appealing his conviction from jail.
44 year-old Jeffry Rae Gillis is serving a three year sentence at Springhill Penitentiary after being found guilty on numerous charges and sentenced in May to federal time.
Gillis is now looking to have his guilty verdict overturned, citing a number of arguments on the validity of the search warrant used by police to discover multiple weapons in his Charlottetown home in February of 2016.
Over 70 firearms ranging from shotguns and revolvers to semi-automatic pistols were seized.
Failing having his conviction overturned, Gillis is seeking a new trial and failing that, he’ll be looking to have his 3 year federal sentence reduced.
