Lots of events on today as we continue a big weekend of festivals on the Island.
The Morell River Run will include the annual Rubber Duck Race at Rossiter Park near the Morell River at 5.00 and a chance to win $1,000.
Montague Summer Days continue with the DiverseCity Festival presented by the PEI Association of Newcomers. Lennie Gallant will be on stage this evening and then a a big fireworks show at 10.00 as part of the Montague 150 Celebration.
The 41st Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival continues with traditional music and world class performances all day through tonight.
A Tunewriter and Songwriter Circle will also be held this afternoon.
And the RCMP Musical Ride is at the Eastlinke Centre in Charlottetown this afternoon.
Big Day in Miminegash
Miminegash, PEI is showing off its new fire truck after a three-year fundraising campaign.
The truck rolled into the small Prince County community of 200 on Saturday. Fire Chief Wayne Gallant says he was speechless as the new truck arrived.
The community raised about 400-thousand dollars to purchase the truck and other equipment.
The Miminegash Fire Department Festival has been on all weekend.
More activities today including a Firemen’s Challenge at 2.00 and Kids tour of the fire department at 6 this evening followed by a parade of lights at 9.00 and fireworks at 10.00.
Morell Sportsman’s Dinner
The Morell Sportsman’s Dinner was held last night as part of the River Run Festival.
Special guests were former NHL star Grant Marshall and his wife Sinead Kerr, who competed for Great Britain in two winter Olympics in figure skating.
Zack MacEwen, who began his minor hockey in Morell, was one of four young Island athletes recognized at the dinner.
MacEwen signed a three entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks in March. The Gatineau Olympique star says he had his choices as a free agent but chose Vancouver.
Jean Eldershaw received the Morell Recognition Award for her longtime involvement with Skate Canada, the Girl Guides and the Morell Sportsman’s Dinner.
