A dozen Island forest firefighters are heading to British Columbia to help fight wildfires.
The 12 Islanders will depart for B-C as part of a joint Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador fire team.
The province says it is the largest contingent of forest firefighters the Island has ever sent to a national emergency.
Nova Scotia is also sending a contingent to battle the fires.
The weekend weather forecast has prompted B-C officials to prepare for more evacuation alerts and orders, as wildfires continue to rage across the province’s Interior.
Lightening and strong winds could fuel the more than 170 fires, three of which surround Williams Lake, where the city’s 11-thousand residents are under an evacuation alert.
More than 16-thousand people have already been evacuated from their homes across B-C.
