The 693-acre Bonshaw Hills Provincial Park was officially opened today with a traditional Mi’kmaq blessing and tours of some of the more than 20 kilometres of trails through the hills and along the Bonshaw River.
The new park is the result of a joint effort that included community members, naturalists, hikers and cycling groups along with First Nations and government.
An accessible, natural play playground has been developed at the park, along with solar-powered sanitation facilities and expanded parking at the north and south trail entries.
Economic Development and Tourism Minister Heath MacDonald says the trails and play area are form ages and make the park an ideal venue to promote healthy lifestyles.
