A new documentary-style film tells the story of Island mothers who used the province’s methadone program to overcome substance abuse while they were pregnant.
The provincial and federal governments commissioned filmmaker Jenna MacMillan to create the 10-minute short film to bring greater awareness about opiate addiction and pregnancy.
Health Minister Robert Henderson said the province works hard to support Islanders struggling with addiction but the support must continue in order to break the cycle of addiction for future generations.
The film will be screened publicly for the first time on Saturday during PEI Fest – Prince Edward Island’s Film, Food and Ideas Festival.
