Maritime beef producers are focused squarely on growth and say Ottawa and the provinces need to support the industry to make that happen.
Members of the Maritime Beef Council met this week in Nova Scotia with industry and government leaders to discuss the Maritime Beef Sector Growth Strategy.
The strategy includes expanding the Maritime beef herd by 20,000 head in the next 10 years, a goal based on current market demand and projected growth.
Nathan Phinney, chair of the Maritime Beef Council, says producers in all three provinces need to work together.
Phinney says the beef sectors in individual provinces are too small to take on this growth so collaboration is needed on everything from research and education opportunities to supplying processing plants and the production of quality feed for our animals.
