An eastern PEI treasure is getting funding from the province and Ottawa.
Cardigan MP Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Hon. Pat Murphy, Minister for Rural and Regional Development, have announced project support for Macphail Woods in Orwell.
ACOA is giving $55,100 for infrastructure and equipment upgrades as well as expanded educational programming at Macphail’s. The Province is also contributing $20,000 through the Department of Rural and Regional Development.
Gary Schneider, Project Coordinator at Macphail Woods, says the Nature Centre will be getting a facelift and they’re developing new educational programming that will increase visitation. Schneider says the woodlands operation is also expanding.
The Macphail Woods Ecology Forestry Project began in 1991 and has grown into a comprehensive forest education facility with five trails and a four-acre plant nursery, offering a summer children’s program, school tours, and a series of workshops at the Macphail Woods Nature Centre.
