Old Home Week is now in its 130th year and marks the highlight of summer for many Islanders and visitors alike.
Details for PEI’s family fun fair were revealed Tuesday as Old Home Week 2017 is set to begin in six weeks from August 10th – 19th.
The 10 day event features livestock competitions and horse shows, barrel racing, Red Dirt Cattle Penning, Sounds of the Island Concert Series, the Old Home Week Talent Show, Women’s Institute handicrafts and art displays, cooking demonstrations, 4-H displays, the Campbell Amusement midway, family entertainment, and, of course, the Gold Cup Parade on Friday, August 18th celebrating Canada’s 150th with the theme “:Canada, Eh!”
Parade highlights this year will include children’s showcase performances from Paw Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Bob the Builder….with children and families then invited to the exhibition grounds for the Bob the Builder live stage show following the parade.
The prestigious Gold Cup and Saucer Race highlights Old Home Week on Saturday, August 19th and two new world level events will also be part of harness racing attractions this year. The 2017 World Trotting Conference comes to Charlottetown and hosts the 19 countries of the harness racing world….as well as the final leg of the World Driving Championships at the historic Charlottetown Driving Park.
Three new acts join Old Home Week entertainment this year – Magician Farrell Dillon with his perfect blend of magic, comedy, skill and illusion; The Keepers – a fun, interactive and educational animal show about the importance of pets and wild animals in their natural habitat; and the Little Buckaroos – a Western themed musical where kids right from the audience are the star performers.
The Kids Pedal Tractor Pull returns, along with the Fast n’ Furious Flyball Dog Show, the Global Pet Food Dog and Pony Class Show, and the Goodlife Fitness Passport where one lucky child will win a bike at the end of Old Home Week.
Ocean 100 and Hot 105.5 will once again host the Mayors Barbecue outside our studios on Fitzroy Street on Friday, August 11th with entertainment and free food to kick off the celebrations with the City of Charlottetown.
With Campbell Amusements celebrating its 50th year in business, every day of Old Home Week will be bracelet day…and on Family Day August 13th, its 50 Day at the midway with all coupons on sale for 50 cents.
Old Home Week event passes are on sale now online and will also be available beginning July 15th at Murphy s Pharmacies across PEI; Baker s Corner Express & PetroCanada in Montague; Red Shores Racetrack & Casino Gift Shop, Eastlink Centre Box Office and the Old Home Week Office.
