Environmental advocacy groups from across Canada are calling on Ottawa to halt the development of a controversial facility that plans to grow genetically modified salmon in PEI.
They were in Charlottetown yesterday to urge the federal government to do more study on the project.
Last week, the P-E-I government approved AquaBounty Canada’s application to expand its current facility in Rollo Bay to grow the salmon from egg to market size.
Mark Butler of the Ecology Action Centre says there has been no scientific assessment of the commercial production of the fish.
