A stranded kayaker was rescued late Friday afternoon in the Cascumpec Bay area.
At about 5:00 pm, a husband and wife were reported to have been kayaking from the sand-dunes back to shore when the weather started getting worse. One of the kayakers was able to return safely to shore but the other was taken away by the increasing strong winds.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax was called, and a Canadian Coast Guard Vessel from Alberton was dispatched to the area. Prince District RCMP, Alberton Fire Department and Island EMS also responded.
At about 6:20 p.m., the Coast Guard vessel located the man in shallow water, a short distance from land, after his kayak had capsized. He was assessed by Island EMS and later released.
