Veteran forward James Neal and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury headlined the expansion draft selections of the Vegas Golden Knights at the N-H-L Awards. Vegas selected 30 players in all _ one from every other N-H-L team. The Golden Knights took 14 forwards, 13 defencemen and three goalies.
Connor McDavid’s sophomore season will go down as a great one. The Oilers centre was awarded the Hart Trophy as the N-H-L’s most valuable player. The Oiler captain was also given the Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player according to his peers. —
Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews capped a memorable first season in the N-H-L with the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. Matthews led all rookies with 40 goals and 69 points in 82 games.
The Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron joined Bob Gainey as the only four time winners of the Selke Trophy as top defensive forward.
Joe Biagini got the help he needed to finally pick up a win. Darwin Barney’s two-run homer capped a six-run first inning and the Blue Jays held on for a 7-5 victory over the Rangers in Arlington, Texas. Biagini struck out five in 5-and-2-thirds innings to win for the first time in seven starts since May 12th.
The Yankees downed the Los Angeles Angels 8-4 to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak. New York’s skid was its longest since 2007. They moved back ahead of Boston for first place in the A-L East, a night after losing the division lead for the first time since mid-May, because Kansas City beat Boston 6-4
