Statistics released Tuesday by the Canadian Cancer Society suggest that in 2017, an estimated 410 people will die of cancer in PEI, and 910 new cases will be diagnosed.
Across Canada, and in PEI, the 4 most diagnosed cancers are lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer.
For men in PEI, prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer. An estimated 95 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, while 70 will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and 75 will be diagnosed with lung cancer.
For Island men, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death.

For women in PEI, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer, followed by lung and colorectal cancer. An estimated 120 women in PEI will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among island women.
