Trivers says Island roads are not as safe as they need to be and points to instances of drivers passing school buses with lights flashing, traveling too fast through communities, and drunk driving as being far too common and there are not enough police to apprehend the perpetrators – especially with increased population during the summer tourist season.
PC Leadership candidate Brad Trivers is calling for the RCMP Traffic Services Division on PEI to be reinstated.
Trivers says four years ago the Liberal government cancelled a five-person RCMP Traffic Services Division to save money. This RCMP division was a roving unit that travelled across the Island ensuring traffic laws were enforced.
But he says that needs to be reinstated to allow for better policing of Island roads.
