The “Share The Road” campaign to improve cycling safety has been launched.
Paula Biggar, PEI’s Transportation Minister says it’s a campaign designed to make awareness about cycling safety with a new one metre rule, and also not opening doors when a cyclist is approaching and cutting cyclists off on turns.
There will be be more signage put in place emphazing cyclist safety and increased fines for those who break the new rules.
The Minister says the most important thing is safety for all vehicles on the the highways.
Fines range from $200 to $500 under the new legislation and the loss of three demerit points on a driver’s license.
PEI is third jurisdiction to implement these new rules of the road.
