PEI Privacy Commissioner Karen Rose has determined after a lengthy investigation that the former Robert Ghiz government was either directly or indirectly responsible for leaking information to the PEI Liberal Party during the 2011 provincial election.
The information was in regards to three former government employees who had gone public with concerns about the provincial nominee program.
In her report, Rose makes several recommendations regarding training and policies to prevent any such privacy breaches in the future.
Premier Wade MacLauchlan issued a statement after the report came out, saying that it is
something that would not have been, and will not be, tolerated under his current government. He adds that they have introduced a number of significant reforms including an ethics and integrity commissioner, and the whistleblower legislation currently before the house.

MacLauchlan also points out that the breach occurred under the previous government, and the key players involved are not a part of the current administration.
