Canada is now one of the few countries in the world to regulate and legalize recreational marijuana, and it’s the largest nation with a national marketplace for legal pot.
Three of the four PEI Cannabis retail outlets will open at 9:00am Wednesday morning. Those are the stores in Charlottetown, Summerside and Montague. The O’Leary store will open later as work is still being done to get it ready. The PEI Cannabis online portal is also open for business Wednesday.
The PEI Cannabis Corporation says security measures are in place to ensure customers are of legal age, and the cannabis retail shops will operate on the same hours as the PEI Liquor Stores.
The retail staff have gone through a rigorous training program and will be able to answer Islanders’ questions about the different strains and products available. However, staff will not be dispensing any medical advice to the in-store shopper.
Currie says “Just the Facts” is an education program available online and instore to encourage responsible use of cannabis and outline the rules for possession and consumption.
