Seventeen Island born players went in the Maritime Junior Hockey League Draft on Saturday in Berwick, Nova Scotia.The Summerside Western Capitals made nine selections and took Kensington Wild left winger Marc Richard as their first choice and 10th overall.
Richard had 9 goals and 25 points in 35 games for the Island Major Midget champs.
The first pick overall was Zachary Alchorn of the Saint John Vitos. The right wing was selected by the St. Stephen Aces.
The Aces had the top three picks. They also took defenseman Jack Morris from the Cape Breton West Islanders as the second choice and forward Ethan Stuckless of the East Coast Blizzard third.The Western Capitals took defenseman Ed MacNeil, a Summerside native, from the Charlottetown Pride as their 2nd pick.
Other selections included Colby MacArthur, a forward with the Wild, Nick Reeves, a forward from the Charlottetown Pride (in a trade that saw the Caps give up their first round pick in 2019), defenseman Greg Kehoe from Stanstead College, defenseman Will Proud of the Wild, forward Riley MacDougall of the Pride, forward Declan MacEachern of St.Georges, and forward Isaac Wilson from King’s Edgehill School.During the supplemental draft of Quebec Major Jr. players the Capitals took Sullivan Sparkes of the Charlottetown Islanders, Brady Pataki of the Moncton Wild Cats, Felix-Antoine Drolet from Acadie-Bathurst and Jason Horvath of Shawinigan.

JAYS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
The Toronto Blue Jays have won their first series since mid-April.
Luke Maile’s bases loaded walk in the 10th gave the Jays a 4-3 walk off win over the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto’s third straight win. Toronto is 7-1 in extra innings. Justin Smoak came home as O’s reliever Michael Given’s gave up the free pass.

Czar Seelster won the feature in harness racing at Red Shores in Charlottetown in 1.55/1. Todd Weatherbie in the bike.The Maritime Breeders Crown Eliminations were held for three year old Sock It Away and Half Cut won in the colts.R Es Shabla and Royaltywestho in the fillies.

Justify has won the second Triple Crown in thoroughbred racing since 2015 taking the 150th Belmont Stakes in New York. Justify becomes the 13th Triple Crown winner in history.

The PEI Jr. Islanders scored 7 runs in the first inning, aided by three Moncton errors as they dropped the first place Metro Mudcats, 8-5 in New Brunswick Jr. baseball.
The Mudcats (7-2) won the second game of the twin bill, 5-0 behind the pitching of Nate Ronan who went the distance.
PEI now 4-4.
