Statistics Canada is out with it’s weekly earning figures.
In Prince Edward Island, average weekly earnings were up 2.3% to $840 in March. The agency says growth in health care and social assistance contributed the most to the increase.
Nationally, average weekly earnings were $997 in March, unchanged from the previous month. Earnings were up 3.1% compared with 12 months earlier, mostly due to increases in the last six months of 2017.
Meanwhile, economic growth slowed to 1.3 per cent in the first quarter of this year in Canada, down from 1.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The weaker-than-expected result comes as housing investment pulled back following the introduction of new mortgage stress test rules.
