Tuesday’s Auditor General’s report has prompted PEI Senator Percy Downe to again raise questions about bridge tolls.
The Auditor General’s report suggests that Ottawa’s promise to eliminate tolls on the Champlain Bridge in Montreal will cost the government at least $3 billion over thirty years, or more than $100 million a year.
Downe is asking why the Federal Government is prepared to spend 100 million a year to eliminate tolls on that bridge, but refuses to spend less than $17 million per year to remove the $47 toll on Confederation Bridge.
