Over 200 eye surgeries are on hold after opthalmologist Dr. Suleiman Sefau took a leave of absence a few months ago.
Those surgeries have been cancelled.
The 200 patients had been pre-scheduled for surgery over the next six months but Health PEI says they are not going ahead now.
A locum is being recruited and a community based eye doctor will be supporting patients during the interim.
Non-surgical issues will be addressed.
There is still no timeline on when a substitute doctor will take over.
