A major transportation artery that has been closed for a week due to record flooding in southern New Brunswick is set to re-open tomorrow.
It’s good news for Island truckers who have been facing 1-2 hour detours.
Transportation officials say the water has now receded on the Trans-Canada Highway between Fredericton and Moncton and crews are working to remove all the debris.Norm Clouston, the general manager of Maritime Road Development, says crews are expected to have removed about 45 to 50 tandem truckloads of debris — mainly logs and driftwood — by the time the highway is re-opened at noon local time tomorrow.
The Fredericton-to-Moncton stretch of highway sees 10-thousand to 12-thousand vehicles daily, and the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association had said earlier this week that the prolonged closure was starting to be felt across the region.
