The latest report from the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council says all four Atlantic provinces need to develop a long-term fiscal plan to ensure fiscal sustainability.
The report says that while PEI has returned to balance after 10 years of deficits, razor thin surpluses are vulnerable to any miss on revenue projections or greater spending pressure.
It says strong population growth will boost federal transfers by $37 million in 2018/2019, but also increase program spending.
