The Canadian Mental Health Association is calling for then country’s opioid crisis to be dealt with as a health issue, not a criminal matter.
The CMHA suggests decriminalization is the key, which means that the possession, use and acquisuition of illegal drugs would no longer be criminal offense. But, producing, supplying and selling drugs would be criminal offenses.
The Association adds that there must also be significant investments in health promotion and treatment measures.
