Joe Byrne has won the leadership of the NDP of PEI.
Byrne had 123 of the 215 votes cast at the party’s leadership convention in Charlottetown, defeating the two other candidates, Margaret Andrade and Susan MacVittie.
Byrne has run twice federally for the NDP, finishing second to Liberal Sean Casey in 2015.
Byrne will take over for Mike Redmond, who stepped down as leader last December.Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh attended the convention, and met with supporters throughout the day.
