A couple of scams have cost two Islanders a lot of money according to the RCMP.
A Cornwall resident in their 20’s was persuaded to send more than 12-thousand dollars to someone who represented themselves as an employee of the Canada Revenue Agency.
The second complaint came from a Stratford resident who had sent over 85-thousand to an individual who they had met through an online dating and companionship website.
The Stratford resident had been sucked in by what the RCMP allege was “a very elaborate scam, which continued for six months, and included forging authentic-looking financial documents and travel documents.
The CRA scam continues. If you receive call, a message or an email that is supposed to be from the Canada Revenue Agency check with the real CRA or call the RCMP.
The callers are demanding and ask for big sums of money.
It’s purely bogus.
