A special audit of the province’s Social Assistance Program by the Auditor General has found that shelter rates have not changed since November 2013 and rates for clothing and household needs have not changed in over ten years. The Auditor General’s 2018 annual report also raises concerns that the Department of Family and Human Services hasn’t developed a system for measuring the program’s performance. The report recommends such performance indicators be established.
On another matter, the Auditor General identified concerns over the control of medications for residents of provincially-owned long term care facilities. The report recommends that inventory and dispensing controls be strengthened.
