The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers staved off elimination in the AUS quarter-finals with a 2-1 edging of the Saint Mary’s Huskies before a packed crowd at the MacLauchlan Arena.
Goalie Matt Mancina was the game star with 28 saves….15 of them came in the first period.
Ryan MacKinnon and Kameron Keilly provided the goals.
The deciding game is tomorrow night in Halifax.

The women’s Panthers are out. They lost 8-1 to the St. Thomas Tommies next door. The Tommies swept the first round series, 2-0.
Emily Oleksuk (Oh leck sick) had three goals and an assist.

The Charlottetown Islanders picked up their 30th win in 55 games as they held off Rouyn-Noranda, 2-1 in a battle of third place teams in the Q. Hunter Drew with the winner and Keith Getson had a goal and assist. Charlottetown is in Val-d’Or today.

The Czech Republic got by Canada, 3-2 in a shootout the winter games. Canada is 1-1 and plays South Korea next.

Samuel Girard has won a gold in the 1,000 metre in short track speed skating.
Kim Boutin won a bronze in the 1,500 metre in women`s short track. It`s her second bronze.

The Sherwood-Parkdale Falcons are into the semi-finals in the 59th Quebec Winter Carnival International Pee Pee hockey tournament in Quebec City. The Falcons plays Halifax Mooseheads at 3.00 today after dropping the Boston Junior Bruins in the quarter-final in shootout. Victor Steele scored the winner. The Falcons are coached by Brodie Coffin, Al MacAdam and John MacAdam.
Blake Wheeler had two goals and set up another as Winnipeg dropped Colorado, 6-1 in the NHL.
Brayden Schenn with the game winner on a power play in overtime helping Dallas to a 2-1 win over St. Louis.
Philadelphia edged Columbus, 2-1 in OT.
The New York Islanders blanked Carolina, 3-0.
