PEI employment last month was at its highest for any January going back as far as 1976. That’s despite the unemployment rate rising almost a full percentage point in January.
Workforce Minister Sonny Gallant says there are more people working this year than there were last year.
Monthly labour numbers released by Statistics Canada show month over month employment on PEI was up 100 people between December and January
900 more people were looking for work which raised the unemployment rate to 10.6% last month. It was at 9.7% in December.
Gallant says 2,000 more people are working this year compared to 2017.
It works out to 13-hundred more part time jobs and 700 full-time jobs.
