The UPEI Student Union is using a letter campaign to advocate for better mental health resources for post-secondary students.
Students may either write their own letter or use a template provided by the Student Union to write to their MLA, a Minister, or the Premier. All the letters centre around one request: a dedicated yearly investment of twenty-five dollars per student to support the enhancement of on-campus mental health and wellness resources at UPEI. V
Taya Nabuurs with the Studebnt union says the majority of mental health illnesses and disorders tend to surface between the ages of 18 to 24, meaning it’s very likely that students will experience some of their first significant challenges with their mental health while at university. She says that’s why it’s absolutely crucial that mental health supports at post-secondary institutions are a priority when government is preparing mental health strategies.
