Representatives from the UPEI Graduate Student Association are in Ottawa this week meeting with MPs and Senators.
The students are in Ottawa as part of the Canadian Federation of Students’ national lobby week. Students from the UPEI grad group will meet with MPs and Senators from PEI with three proposals to transform public post-secondary education.
Those proposals include eliminating tuition fees for all skilled trades and apprenticeship, college and university students by restoring federal public transfers for post-secondary education.
Spokesperson Ashley McKibbon says UPEI graduate students are not alone in their struggles with high tuition fees and rising student debt. She says we have to move towards a system of universally accessible post-secondary education so that everyone in the country has an equal opportunity to succeed.
