Cannabis legalization was on the agenda as PEI Transportation Minister Paula Biggar met in Ottawa Monday with the country’s other Transportation Ministers.
Enforcement and public education are top priorities for the Ministers when it comes to legalized pot and keeping the roads safe.
Biggar highlighted PEI’s legislative amendments put in place in 2012 to treat drug impairment under the Criminal Code of Canada with the same penalties as driving while impaired by alcohol. Biggar told them that PEI is currently working to strengthen roadside suspensions, and how to deal with cases of impaired driving with a minor.
The Ministers also discussed transportation’s impact on climate change; as well as automated vehicles.
