PEI is under a Winter Storm Warning as it faces a blast of heavy snow and strong winds. Snow started overnight with light snow in the morning, and eventually was mixed with some freezing drizzle. It’s to turn to heavy snow in the afternoon giving 5-10cm and then another 5cm in the evening. Strong winds are resulting in blowing snow, and it could mean poor visibility and poor road conditions in areas.
Due to the forecast and resulting road conditions, all schools in the Public Schools Branch and French School Board are closed for the day on Tuesday. All Holland College centres are closed for the day. UPEI is also closed for the day.
Shortly after 12pm it was announced that all provincial civil service offices in Kings County closed at noon, while all provincial civil service offices in East and West Prince as well as Queens County and Charlottetown would close at 1:00 p.m.
