The Island Storm lost 103-100 to the Halifax Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon at the Eastlink Centre. The two teams meet again Saturday night at Eastlink Centre.
The UPEI Men’s Basketball Panthers swept their weekend set against the Cape Breton Capers. The Panthers won 77-71 on Sunday after beating the Capers on Saturday.
The Women’s Panrhers fell 88-78 to Cape Breton Sunday, after winning Saturday’s game.
The Holland Hurricanes picked up four wins over the weekend with wins for both teams over UNB Saint John on Saturday, and then a 64-57 win for the women on the road over the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday. The men’s team won 93-87 over the Mounties.
In Major Midget Hockey action, Kensington blanked Northern 5-0, while the Charlottetown Pride lost 2-1 to Moncton in overtime.
In the Island Junior Hockey League, Sherwood edged Kensington 5-4 (OT); and Western doubled Eastern 6-3
The Spud Hockey Tournament wrapped up Sunday. Cental Attack won a Midget thriller 3-2 over Pownal; and ther only other island team to win a banner was Charlottetown with a 5-3 win over Sherwood in the Novice AA final.
Brock Boeser has joined exclusive company with his performance at the N-H-L all-star game. He’s the first rookie to take M-V-P honours since Mario Lemieux in 1985 after the Pacific Division defeated the Atlantic Division 5-2. The Vancouver Canucks forward scored and was the only rookie among 15 first-time all-stars.
Saturday afternoon’s card was the final program of the winter meet at Red Shores Charlottetown with 11-dashes, and Marc Campbell made five trips to the winner’s circle.
