Belfast Murray River PC MLA Darlene Compton says securing a sustainable, long-term solution for the Wood Islands ferry service needs to continue to be a priority for both the provincial and federal governments.
She says work will soon be underway to prepare for May’s start to the new season and those that depend on the ferry service deserve to have some clarity about its future.
Comption says that already they’re hearing concerns that there may be maintenance and capital work needed for the boats. So, she has written the federal Transport Minister asking for a progress update on those issues.
The contract with Northumberland Ferries as the ferry operator has been extended until 2020.
