After a frightening incident earlier this week, the PEI Humane Society is warning dog owners of the dangers during trapping season.
On Wednesday afternoon, the PEI Humane Society was called out to help a Wildlife Conservation Officer in the Murray River area as two dogs were caught in a coyote snare.
A black collie was examined and appeared uninjured, while a husky was taken immediately to the Atlantic Veterinarian College for emergency care. The dog did sustain a neck injury but is now recovering.
Trapping Season on PEI is from November 1st to March 31st, and the Humane Society is encouraging owners to keep their dogs on a leash or on their own property. If you are walking your dog on private land, ask the owner if there are any traps set. You can also research what traps are used on PEI and how to release them. Keep in mind that if your dog is caught in a trap, the dog is in pain and fearful and may be reactive as a result.
