The Charlottetown Islanders played their last game at home before the Christmas break and gave the fans a 6-1 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Sam Meisenheimer led the attack with a pair of goals and assist. Hunter Drew, Thomas Casey, Pascal Aquin and Olivier Desjardins added singles.
The Islanders wrap up the first half with game in Saint John tonight. Charlottetown has 19 wins in 31 games.
The Islanders are 9th overall and 3rd in the Martitimes just 4 points back of first place Halifax. The Isles have also allowed the third fewest goals against in the league with 92.
The Sea Dogs got by Moncton, 4-3 in overtime.
Halifax stopped Acadie-Bathurst, 5-2.

The Summerside Western Capitals put up a good effort but lost 4-3 to the high flying Edmundston Blizzard in the MHL. Vincent Rioux got the winner giving the North leaders a 4-2 lead with just over 5 minutes left in the third. Cam Roberts had two power play goals for the Caps. TJ scored his 24th and leads the league with 57 points. The Blizzard has 21 wins in 28 games. The Caps are 14-11-1 and 4th in the North. The Capitals visit Woodstock tonight.

Former UPEI Panther Joel Ward hit a milestone in his NHL career playing in his 700th game but his San Jose Shark lost 4-3 in overtime in Vancouver.
Trevor Daley’s short handed goal stood up as the winner as Detroit got by Toronto, 3-1.
